Former President Goodluck Jonathan was
awarded in the US on Thursday for his
leadership in human rights in Africa’s most
populous nation, Nigeria.
Jonathan, who was awarded in recognition of his leadership in
“human rights, social justice and universal fight for freedom”,
becomes the first African leader to be so honoured.
The presidential award was presented by the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference, founded by the late American human rights
activist, Martin Luther King Jr, best known for his human rights
struggles and the I-have-a-dream speech.
In statement on Friday, the former president expressed his pleasure
in being so honoured and also meeting the sister of the famous
human rights activist.
“I thank Dr. Charles Steele Jr, President of the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, and the executive of the
SCLC for honoring me today,” he said.
“It was also a pleasure to meet Naomi King, the sister of the late
American Civil Rights leader and founder of the SCLC, Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr, who was kind enough to attend the event and
identify with the goals and aspirations of the Goodluck Jonathan
Foundation.
“By this award, I am further inspired to continue to work for the
advancement of democracy, peace and progress in Nigeria and
Africa.”
Jonathan is billed to be in the US for the 2016 Hope Global
Forums conference, where he is expected to Succeed the
42nd president of the US, Bill Clinton as
keynote speaker.
In the letter sent to Jonathan in December 2015, he was invited to
join the biggest 500 companies in the world in their promotion
of King’s human right ideals.
“We invite you to join Fortune 500 CEO’s, private investors,
financial leaders and government officials to connect and collaborate
on this vision,” the letter had read.
“With the theme ‘Reimagining the Global Economy: Inclusive
Economics’, the annual meeting is set against the backdrop of the
Martin Luther King Holiday weekend and gathers leaders from
government, community and the private sector to outline a vision for
the modern global economy.”
Jonathan was earlier in Florida to welcome his second grandchild,
delivered by his adopted daughter, Inebharapu Paul.

JAMB EXTENDS REGISTRATION DATE
The closing date for the registration of the Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination (UTME) as announced by JAMB, has
been extended till 31st January.
We therefore wish to advise all Myschoolers who are yet to
purchase their 2016 UTME forms to do so on or before January
31st, 2016.
This also extends to candidates who are still waiting for
supplementary or additional list of their choice schools for the
2015/2016 admission year to be released.
It is always a bad idea to have all your eggs in one basket. There
is no 100% guarantee that your name will appear on the list even
if the school eventually releases it.
To be on a safe side, get the JAMB form before it expires. That
way, even if you miss the 2015/2016 admission, you will still
stand a chance in the 2016/2017 session.
Also remember the examination is expected to commence February
29th 2016 (all things being equal).
SOKOTO STATE GOVERNMENT RECOVERS 1.2 BILLION IN ISLE ACCOUNTS
Two weeks after the formal introduction of the Treasury
Single Accounting (TSA) system in Sokoto, the state
government said it has uncovered the sum of N1.5b lying
idle in 100 redundant accounts belonging to it in various
commercial banks in the country.
The state commissioner of finance, Alhaji Umar Saidu, who
stated this in Sokoto Sunday while giving an update on the
system's implementation, said government is determined to
trace and close down all dormant and inactive accounts
operated by it.
He said since the introduction of the TSA, there has been a massive
improvement in the reconciliation of public finance figures between
the government and commercial banks. This, according to him, has
reduced risk of errors in reconciliation processes and has enhanced
timeliness and quality of the fiscal figures from such accounts.
The commissioner said the introduction of the TSA has now enabled
government to regularly monitor public cash balances while at the
same time ensuring higher quality cash analysis from all accounts
hitherto operated by the state government and its agencies.
He added that more analysis are being undertaken efficiently and at
regular intervals.
He said the full benefit of the new accounting system would be felt
when the implementation of the 2016 budget starts. The document is
currently undergoing legislative action with state House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, Sokoto Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Sunday
approved the posting and redeployment of new permanent secretaries
and directors-general in the state civil service.
A statement issued by his spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, showed
that 23 Permanent Secretaries were redeployed while 11 DGs have
been sent to various departments and agencies in the state.
15yr old Chinese girl beaten and stripped naked by gang members
A video making round on Chinese social media yesterday shows a
15-year-old girl being attacked by a gang made up of young girls
in Lingao, Hainan Province, China.
She was brutally beaten, kicked and stripped off her clothes.
According to media reports, the incident has caught the attention of
local police, and they’re conducting an investigation along with the
crime and cyber police departments of Dongying town, Lingao county.
Responding to the influx of juvenile violence, Yang Xine, procurator-
general of the juvenile court of Haidian District, Beijing, said the
behavior is partly to be blamed on games, books and television
shows that provoke such violent acts.
Over the past few years, China has seen a surge in school
violence. According to a survey by China Youth Research Center in
2015, out of the 5,864 respondents in 10 provinces, 32.5% said
that they had been bullied while 6.1% said that they were often
bullied by their seniors.

PASTOR TB JOSHUA'S ECCOUNTER WITH SATAN, VIDEO GOES VIRAL
A YouTube clip showing controversial Nigerian Pastor T.B.
Joshua’s dramatic encounter with ‘Lucifer’ has gone viral,
amassing over 500,000 views in just one month since its
release online. The video titled ‘Face To Face With Lucifer’
shows a peculiar scenario that unfolded in Joshua’s church
when a self-professed ‘occult wizard’ came to seek prayers
at The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in
Lagos, Nigeria.
In the clip, an eerily looking man with a menacing black beard
introduces himself as Professor Chukwudi Okakpu, an alleged
‘Grand Llama of Science Beyond Material’. Amidst his extraordinary
claims, the Satanist professed to have had face to face encounters
with ‘Lucifer’ and to have endorsed ‘anti-Christs’ globally. “I can
stay here and appear in any part of Europe,” Okakpu, dressed in
a flowing white suit, calmly stated, adding that he ‘operates like a
spirit’. “If you are such a person that patronises shrines or
herbalists, I am the ultimate,” he sensationally claimed.
The video shows Joshua praying for Okakpu who sways uneasily
several times before eventually falling to the floor. Several of his
‘followers’ proceed to come out from the crowd and are also
prayed for, after which the ‘professor’ renounces his devilish past.
Okakpu proceeds to return the following week with some of his
‘occultic’ garments to testify to the changes in his life after
‘accepting Jesus Christ’.
“This is a video satan does not want you to watch,” Emmanuel TV
states in its introduction of the clip on YouTube. “A satanic
‘general’ renounces his covenants with devilry and witchcraft in a
church service that made hell and its minions quiver!” As with most
of Joshua’s videos, the contents have elicited controversy with
opposing views as to its authenticity.
Several online commentators insisted Joshua’s deliverance services
are nothing more than a scam involving arranged actors while others
argue they are genuine and godly. Joshua’s YouTube channel
Emmanuel TV, where the clip was uploaded, is the third most
subscribed channel in Nigeria with nearly 300,000 subscribers and
110,000,000 views.

"Biafra is being misguided" - Archbishop of Enugu
The Arch- Bishop, Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Most. Rev.
Emmanuel Chukwuma, yesterday, took a swipe at the pro-Biafra
groups describing the demonstrations as misguided.
The cleric said the protests by the youths were borne out of
frustration and idleness caused by infrastructure decay in the South-
East geopolitical zone.
Bishop Chukwuma while addressing newsmen said that the agitators
did not experience the Nigeria’s civil war to appreciate its toll on
the Igbo nation.
He said:
“Our people have invested in other parts of Nigeria. The
agitation for Biafra is a grievance being shown in a wrong
way because of frustration. The youths are frustrated
because many of them have been used and dumped by
politicians. Most of these politicians have failed them. The
appointment of an Igbo in President Buhari’s cabinet does
not translate to infrastructure development.
“All that we need now is the empowerment of our youths.
Federal Government should ensure constant power supply
so that industries will be established to create jobs to curb
restiveness. An idle man is the devil’s workshop. The Igbo
is in support of the President’s anti-corruption fight. The
people who have stolen our wealth should be brought to
book and the funds recovered plunged in the development of
our area,” Chukwuma said.
“We are aggrieved over the state of our roads. There is
no federal presence in the South-East. Our prisons are
congested among others. Although we did not vote for
Buhari, we now know where his administration is going and
we have embraced it.Buhari should temper justice with mercy
over Biafra agitation and release Nnamdi Kanu
unconditionally.” “the Arch Bishop appealed.

POLICE OFFICER BREASTFEEDS BABY, SAVES HER LIFE
A police officer went above and beyond the call of duty to save a
baby’s life.
Officer Luisa Fernanda Urrea, who recently became a mom herself,
was called to a scene in a remote forest in Colombia after an
abandoned infant was found. A local woman, Edinora Jimenez,
discovered the crying baby in the undergrowth of the forest.
“I was collecting some oranges when I heard something
crying,” Jimenez told a local news source, as reported by
the Huffington Post Thursday. “I thought it was a cat until
I looked closer and saw that it was a baby girl.”
The infant, who still had part of her umbilical cord attached, was
starving and facing hypothermia, so Urrea breastfed her, saving her
life. “I’m a new mother and I have milk, and I recognized the
needs that this poor little creature had,” Urrea told the local news.
“I think any woman would have given her nourishment in the same
circumstances.”
The Colombian Family Welfare Institute is now caring for the infant
while it finds an adoptive home for her. In the meantime, police are
searching for the mother, who may face criminal charges. Orphanage
director Jhon Arley Murillo said:
“We could be dealing with a case of attempted homicide,
although it’s the prosecutor who will decide the charge.”
